What is an HS Code?
The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) of tariff nomenclature is an internationally standardized system of names and numbers for classifying traded products developed and maintained by the World Customs Organization (WCO), an independent intergovernmental organization with over 170 member countries based in Brussels, Belgium. MILA’s Trade information can be provided by 8-digit HS, 6 -digit HS; importing company; exporting company or any combination of these.
How do I know the HS code for my products?
The HS code for a company product is listed in import petitions and shipping documents. A customs broker can help identify the HS code. MILA has an alliance with a customs broker in Mexico who can help identify HS codes.
How accurate is the information?
The information in the database includes 99%+ of all trade transactions crossing though Mexican border points. The remaining % are irrelevant imports (e.g., a student returning home from abroad, product samples or irrelevant value imports). The information is updated monthly the 25th day of the following month.
In what format is the information delivered?
Trade databases are delivered in Microsoft Excel. Analysis and reports are delivered in Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Word depending on the clients’ preference. Large files are delivered via download from DropBox or Yousendit; small files are delivered by e-mail.
